Borderlust

by Mauricio Paz Viola & Justin Earl Grant

“Scientists say that human beings are made of atoms, but a little bird told me that we are also made of stories.”
Eduardo Galeano

Mauricio Paz Viola & Justin Earl Grant celebrate their second exhibition together. After their shared experiences in Santiago de Chile 2015, they are reunited once again in the city of Houston.

Borderlust is a reflection on the dynamic experience of how we construct our identity as an emancipatory and paradoxical process.

Paz Viola & Grant’s collection of works present a series of silhouettes of the human figure whose limits are traced and shows the interconnection of the subject with the whole.

Bonderlust aspires to reaffirm the magnitude of possibilities of the expansion of the human being.

The closing of the year was marked with the artistic collective “Rosario 50 years of Rock in Castellano” in a memorable concert at the prestigious “Trovafest” festival in the city of Querétaro (Mexico) with more than 5,000 people, a festival that also hosted artists like Ismael Serrano, Armando Manzanero, Pedro Guerra, Amaury Perez, among others.

We can hear Luis A. Spinetta, Fito Paez, Charly Garcia, Sting, John Mayer, and Djavan as his main influences among others.

The essence of Ismael, though, is that he presents his art and talent via the stories in which he immerses us, through the beauty reflected in his music, and by inviting us to join his collective optimism. In his shows, he presents himself with a unique style and warmth.

This character is present whether he is alone on stage with his guitar, or with a powerful band of musicians without losing his essence.

14 Kilometres

14 Kilometres, the distance separating Africa from Europe, is a road movie depicting the hardships and challenges some people undertake in order to reach their dream destination, where they believe they can find paradise.
The film follows the perilous journey of three characters across the Sahara to Morocco in order to cross the Straits of Gibraltar into Spain, as they attempt to reach the supposedly lavish lands of Europe where there is hope for the future. This trio consists of a young girl, Violet, who lives in a village in Mali, escaping her arranged marriage to an old man; Buba, a mechanic and a skillful footballer, and his older brother Mukela from the neighbouring Niger, who suggests that he go to Europe to try his skills there.

Exposición Artística “Creadoras” @ Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston
