La Reina Isabel en persona
La Reina Isabel de Castilla realiza una retrospectiva de lo que ha sido su vida. De los logros políticos y sociales que consiguió, así como su lucha contra la soledad que hubo de soportar. Isabel I conocía las obligaciones que tenía y fue siempre severa y responsable con ellas, apoyó las iniciativas de Cristobal Colón, firmó importantes tratados políticos y se casó con Fernando el Católico, con el que tuvo una vida familiar no libre de desgracias, pues tuvo que superar, a duras penas, la muerte de dos hijos y la locura de Juana.
Isabel Ordaz es la única intérprete de esta insólita película y sobre ella cae todo el peso de la trama. El guión examina cuidadosamente cada parte de lo que fue la vida de la reina y los sentimientos de ésta, una mujer avanzada para su tiempo. Emotiva y turbadora, dirige el film Rafael Gordon.
La Reina Isabel en Persona debería ser un documento irrenunciable en la escuela, para ayudar a los jóvenes a comprender la grandeza de una Reina que –junto a su esposo– abrió las puertas a la Edad Moderna y supo legar a su nieto, el Emperador Carlos, un gran patrimonio y una nación de la que sentirse orgulloso.
Conocida es la anécdota de la respuesta de Carlos I a un embajador francés, sorprendido de que el Rey no utilizara el francés como lengua diplomática: “No importa que no me entendáis. A woman in a man’s world, the wild-eyed, wild-haired Isabel (Ordaz) is at the end of her span. Moving around shadowy, stony 15th-century interiors, she verbally revisits the main episodes of her life, including her country’s arrival in the New World, her expulsion from the Jews from Spain and her intense, lengthy love affair with Fernando of Aragon. Ordaz, little-known even at home – except for her Goya-winning role in Javier Maqua’s gritty 1997 drama, “Chevrolet” – attacks the role With Relish, creating an Isabel who’s intelligent, passionate and arrogant, but Also aware of her flaws. Well-researched script gives the sneaker-wearing queen an awareness of more recent events, such as Hiroshima and 20th-century right-wing political activism, allowing her to come across as the modern-minded pioneer she was.

Alatriste (El capitán Alatriste)

Goya in Bordeaux
Francisco Goya (1746-1828), deaf and ill, lives the last years of his life in voluntary exile in Bordeaux, a Liberal protesting the oppressive rule of Ferdinand VII. He’s living with his much younger wife Leocadia and their daughter Rosario. He continues to paint at night, and in flashbacks stirred by conversations with his daughter, by awful headaches, and by the befuddlement of age, he relives key times in his life, particularly his relationship with the Duchess of Alba, his discovery of how he wanted to paint (insight provided by Velázquez’s work), and his lifelong celebration of the imagination. Throughout, his reveries become tableaux of his paintings.

1989. Los Últimos de Filipinas
A finales del siglo XIX, en la colonia española de Filipinas, un destacamento español fue sitiado en el pueblo de Baler, en la isla filipina de Luzón, por insurrectos filipinos revolucionarios, durante 337 días. En diciembre de 1898, con la firma del Tratado de París entre España y Estados Unidos, se ponía fin formalmente a la guerra entre ambos países y España cedía la soberanía sobre Filipinas a Estados Unidos. Debido a esto, los sitiados en Baler son conocidos como “los últimos de Filipinas”.
1898. Our Last Men in the Philippines
Death, violence, blood, desperation, fear and starvation. This is the plight of the last fifty men of the Spanish Empire as they defend the last of its colonies to the death: the Philippines. These Spaniards, drifters rather than soldiers, barricade themselves inside the church in the small village of Baler against the incessant offensive by the country’s native Tagalogs. Over 300 days go by, and day in and day out, they suffer all kinds of illness and miseries. Between the arrows they receive and their own return fire, these Spaniards, far from home, take on the adventure of their lives in an inhospitable jungle crawling with crocodiles and other dangers. “Catorce kilómetros” es la distancia que separa África de Europa por el Estrecho de Gibraltar. En África hay millones de personas cuyo único objetivo es entrar en Europa porque el hambre no entiende de fronteras ni de barreras. Este largometraje quiere aportar un poco de luz a las sombras de la inmigración. Buba Kanou, Violeta Sunny Sunny y Mukela Kanou emprenden un largo y peligroso viaje hacia Europa a través de Mali, Níger, Argelia y Marruecos y muestran ciertos aspectos no muy conocidos de la realidad africana.
14 Kilometres
14 Kilometres, the distance separating Africa from Europe, is a road movie depicting the hardships and challenges some people undertake in order to reach their dream destination, where they believe they can find paradise.
The film follows the perilous journey of three characters across the Sahara to Morocco in order to cross the Straits of Gibraltar into Spain, as they attempt to reach the supposedly lavish lands of Europe where there is hope for the future. This trio consists of a young girl, Violet, who lives in a village in Mali, escaping her arranged marriage to an old man; Buba, a mechanic and a skillful footballer, and his older brother Mukela from the neighbouring Niger, who suggests that he go to Europe to try his skills there.

Para ello tendremos como invitados a Pilar Andújar reconocida artista Flamenco, Bailaora, cantaora y performer, representante del arte Flamenco contemporáneo.
También nos acompañará Antonio Renilla con una hermosa exhibición del caballo de pura raza español.

We invite you to be part of our second chapter of Spotlight Spain. On this occasion we will share two Spanish emblematic art forms; Flamenco art and equestrian riding.
We will have Pilar Andújar as one of our guests, a renowned Flamenco artist, dancer, singer and performer. She is also an important representative of contemporary Flamenco art.
Antonio Renilla will also accompany us with a beautiful exhibition of a purebred Spanish horse.
