Presentación dinámica de los diferentes hechos históricos, sociales y culturales que influyeron el desarrollo de varios géneros musicales y bailables en Latinoamérica; entre ellos: salsa, samba, tango y más. Explorando las influencias indígenas, europeas, africanas y otras, la charla viaja a través de más de 500 años por Latinoamérica y el Caribe donde la fusión de todos estos elementos produjo la música y bailes que hoy son populares no solo en el continente, sino también por el mundo entero. Creada y presentada por Raul Orlando Edwards con colaboración de Reinaldo Costa.

Education Day- Onsite program.

Applying for college is a highly competitive and complicated process, from career focus discernment to selecting the educational institution, financial concerns, standardized test readiness and developing the communication strategies to best represent yourself in writing and in person.

This one-day workshop will focus on the academic discernment process, developing a strong resume and personal statement, interview skills, and the power of social media -both negative and positive impact.

After a morning session with experts in the field of education and communication, students will have the opportunity to apply the concepts in practical exercises demonstrating the different skill sets.

We look forward to working with you to make this journey a success!

THIS IS A FREE PROGRAM SPONSORED BY THE INSTITUTE OF HISPANIC CULTURE OF HOUSTON.

BREAKFAST SNACKS AND LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED.
PARKING IS AVAILABLE ONSITE AND ON THE STREET.

All participants are required to bring a signed copy of the Authorization form you will receive after registration through Eventbrite. The Parental Authorization form is required for Minors under 18 years of age.

Literary Encounters. Literature from Spanish and Latin American Nobel Prize winners @ Online Event

Did you know that there have been eleven Nobel Literature prizes awarded to authors from Spain and Latin America since the 1900s? And, that most of these authors are widely available in English translation? This webinar will explore the work of these authors, including possible approaches to reading and understanding the works in translation or in Spanish, and the author’s connections with the United States.

Dr. María E. Pérez is a retired professor from the Department of Hispanic Studies of the University of Houston. Since her retirement, she has been active in Hispanic organizations in Houston, including the Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston, where she currently serves as a Board Member.

Los invitamos a ser parte de nuestro segundo capítulo de Spotlight Spain. En esta ocasión compartiremos con ustedes sobre dos expresiones emblemáticas españolas; el arte Flamenco y el arte ecuestre.

Para ello tendremos como invitados a Pilar Andújar reconocida artista Flamenco, Bailaora, cantaora y performer, representante del arte Flamenco contemporáneo.

También nos acompañará Antonio Renilla con una hermosa exhibición del caballo de pura raza español.

We invite you to be part of our second chapter of Spotlight Spain. On this occasion we will share two Spanish emblematic art forms; Flamenco art and equestrian riding.

We will have Pilar Andújar as one of our guests, a renowned Flamenco artist, dancer, singer and performer. She is also an important representative of contemporary Flamenco art.

Antonio Renilla will also accompany us with a beautiful exhibition of a purebred Spanish horse.
