| El pasado 14 de noviembre de 2019 se inauguró en el Consulado General de México en Houston la Exposición Familia Lorenzo Folk Art from Guerrero, Mexico.
La exposición pretende destacar el valor patrimonial del arte popular y multigeneracional de la Familia Lorenzo. Al mismo tiempo busca contribuir en la promoción, difusión y aprendizaje del arte popular mexicano y al desarrollo y renovación del arte popular. La directora del proyecto, Mariela G. Domínguez, relató como surgió el proyecto que se exhibirá hasta el 13 de diciembre. “Hace un par de años en San Antonio conocí a Fernando Lorenzo, uno de los más jóvenes integrantes de la familia, y me propuse visibilizar la bellísima labor creativa de la Familia Lorenzo. Siendo una extranjera en el contexto mexicano -soy de Buenos Aires- el proyecto significó un enorme aprendizaje del caudal creativo y de la influencia universal de la cultura y del arte mexicano.” Posteriormente el Consulado de México en Houston abrazó la propuesta dando el justo impulso para que se configurara el proyecto y desde entonces se sumaron diversos colaboradores, entre ellos el Instituto de Cultura Hispana, IHCH por sus siglas en inglés, y Vox Culture. |
On November 14, 2019, the exhibition Familia Lorenzo Folk Art from Guerrero, Mexico was inaugurated at the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston.
The exhibition aims to highlight the heritage value of the popular and multigenerational art of the Lorenzo Family. At the same time it seeks to contribute to the promotion, dissemination and learning of Mexican popular art and the development and renewal of popular art. The project director, Mariela G. Domínguez, related how the project that will be exhibited until December 13 came about. “A couple of years ago in San Antonio I met Fernando Lorenzo, one of the youngest members of the family, and I set out to make visible the beautiful creative work of the Lorenzo Family. Being a foreigner in the Mexican context -I am from Buenos Aires- the project meant an enormous learning of the creative flow and the universal influence of Mexican culture and art. “ Subsequently, the Consulate of Mexico in Houston embraced the proposal giving the right impetus for the projects success. Since then several collaborators joined, including the Institute of Hispanic Culture IHCH, and Vox Culture. |
| La ceremonia inaugural fue presidida por el Cónsul Adscrito Alfonso García Estrada y la Cónsul Nuria Zúñiga Alániz. Alejandro Macías fue el maestro de ceremonias de parte del Consulado de México, y la Presidenta del Instituto de Cultura Hispana en Houston IHCH, Yolanda Velasquez, ofreció unas palabras destacando la labor del Instituto en la promoción y el patrocinio de actividades culturales hispanas en la ciudad.
Cabe destacar la contribución desinteresada de las Doctoras Dorothy Caram, Maria T. Rocha, Rima de Vallbona y Ana Hnat. Todas brillantes y solidarias benefactoras del proyecto e importantes figuras en la historia fundacional del Instituto, IHCH. Asimismo, en nombre de los organizadores del proyecto se agradece a Dunyha Home, Hospitality & Harmony por su generosa contribución a la estadía de los artistas invitados. También a todas las empresas que también quisieron sumarse a esta iniciativa, especialmente se agradece a Reina Desserts, Chuy´s, Jarritos, El Tiempo Cantina y a la Cámara de Tequila Mexicana. |
The inaugural ceremony was chaired by the Assigned Consul Alfonso García Estrada and the Consul Nuria Zúñiga Alániz. Mr. Alejandro Macías was the master of ceremonies on behalf of the Consulate of Mexico, and the President of the Institute of Hispanic Culture in Houston IHCH, Yolanda Velasquez, offered a few words highlighting the Institute’s work in the promotion and sponsorship of Hispanic cultural activities in the city .
It is worth noting the selfless contribution of Doctors Dorothy Caram, Maria T. Rocha, Rima de Vallbona and Ana Hnat, all whom are bright and supportive benefactors of the project and important figures in the founding history of the IHCH. Likewise, on behalf of the organizers of the project, Dunyha Home, Hospitality & Harmony is thanked for their generous contribution of providing accommodation for the guest artists. Also praise was givien to the companies joined this initiative, especially Reina Desserts, Chuy´s, Jarritos, El Tiempo Cantina and Cámara de Tequila Mexicana. |
| Recientemente el proyecto se ha sumado a la iniciativa anual Mes de la Ciudadanía en la Ciudad de Houston. En el panorama cultural cosmopolita y diverso de la ciudad la exposición procura destacar el patrimonio cultural de estos artistas populares contemporáneos poco visibilizados pero que demandan de mayor comprensión y reconocimiento en tiempos debates culturales identitarios.
Familia Lorenzo se inauguró el día 14 de noviembre, en Consulado General de México en Houston, ubicado en 4506 Caroline St, Houston, TX 77004. Con entrada libre y gratuita la exposición permanecerá en exhibición hasta el 13 de diciembre de 2019. |
Recently the project has joined the annual initiative Citizenship Month in the City of Houston. In the cosmopolitan and diverse cultural landscape of the city, the exhibition seeks to highlight the cultural heritage of these contemporary popular artists who are not easily visible but who demand greater understanding and recognition in times of cultural identity debates.
Familia Lorenzo opened on November 14, at the Consulate General of Mexico in Houston, located at 4506 Caroline St, Houston, TX 77004. With free and free admission, the exhibition will remain on view until December 13, 2019. |
