Houston, December 16, 2019

¡Gracias!

A Big Thanks!
During 2019, the Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston (IHCH) focused on developing its activities in three main areas: Culture and Art, Promotion in Social Networks and Commitment to Community.

Culture and Art
On a cultural level, the IHCH promoted activities in which different nuances were combined between cinema, music, books, plastic arts and flavors, all aimed at emphasizing the importance of the Latin American language and roots.
One of the main and most successful projects carried out during 2019 was the “History Through Cinema” whose main objective was to show Latin history through the big screen. In this project, 11 different Hispanic nations were explored and also, there was a special participation from Mexican and Colombian consulates.
In the musical area, we were visited by leading international composers, such as Ismael Torres from Argentina and Ricardo Parra from Chile. Overall, four musical meetings were held.
On the other hand, the IHCH opened its doors to a total of 6 visual arts exhibitions in which we have the participation of some international artists. Some of these projects were a joint collaboration with local groups such as Friends of Culture of Chile and Ar7seven.
Also, this year we celebrate the “flavors” from Spain and Venezuela countries: Flavors of Spain parties and Venezuelan Flavors, respectively.
Finally, in our emblematic Hispanic Day in partnership with the Miller Outdoor Theater, Venezuelan was honored as a nation with a dazzling show by Danmar Academy and outstanding local musical talents.

Community & Network

This year at our 54th Gala Night of the Americas we make an emotional celebration to all the great figures of the Hispanic artistic world that IHCH has promoted throughout his long career in the city. The named “Golden Years” commemorated among other outstanding artists the memory of Rocio Durcal, Libertad Lamarque and Mario Moreno Cantinflas. All artists presented by our institution in the city of Houston.
Thanks to the fundraising work and the contributions of our suppressors in our Gala this year, 11 scholarships were awarded. At the same time, the Gala had prominent guests and national references such as Judge Lina Hidalgo who offered a significant message to all the scholars of this year.
On the other hand, it is important to highlight the alliances that the Institute established in the production and development of all its annual projects. Among them the consulates of Mexico, Colombia and Chile, national organizations and associations such as Casa de España, Casa Argentina, Friends of Culture of Chile and other organizations linked to culture and education such as Theater People, Creomas, Tao, Cronopios Writers, Ar7Seven, Our Word and many more.
In conclusion, we highlight the community work of our volunteers, who lovingly contributed part of their time in the development of all the projects carried out.
Support & Engagement
Our ventures are aimed at promoting the integral development of the Hispanic community and particularly this year we have emphasized in our work the promotion of education and training in our community. In this sense, during the year we have completed 4 periods of photography classes in Spanish, with a total of 40 graduates. In the same way, we celebrate the development of a diverse set of workshops aimed at professional development and others aimed at artistic creation, health and well-being.
On the other hand, the Winning and Success Beyond School & Snapchat event was held, whose main objective was not only to attract a younger audience through a more attractive, innovative and entertaining format for High School students but that of serving as a platform that provides useful tools to these students to increase the rate of access to college. This renovation project will continue during 2020.
IHCH 2020 Challenges!
During this year we have affirmed our efforts to establish greater and renewed alliances with local and international Hispanic community organizations.
We hope to continue with a varied agenda of events with the objective of continuing to grow as an organization and generate a positive impact on our community.
We want to grow with all of you, promoting culture and the arts and expanding our goals in education and training for our professionals and young students.
